The GTA Children's Garden is a community project open to all and loved by many! Our vision is to educate and inspire youth through hands on gardening programs with a focus on nutrition! Established in 1999 on the lake side of the Traverse Area District Library’s Main Branch, our founder Susan Kuschell rallied the support of generous donors to develop a walk through garden with features such as:
* sensory touch and smell garden for the visually impaired
* willow house
* fish pond
* whimsical frog and turtle art etc..
Please come tour and enjoy the beauty of this public space cared for by our interns and volunteers!
Additionally we host the "Learning Garden's." This is a platform to conduct educational programs teaching various groups from around the Grand Traverse Area how to grow and cultivate vegetables from seed all the way to the table! These programs offer an opportunity for children to learn sustainability, leadership, and life skills, while serving as good stewards protecting our community and the environment.We serve a variety of groups throughout the summer in our learning gardens including day camps, therapy groups, teen outreach organizations etc.. and are happy to find a place and purpose for all who are interested.
Our highest intention is to promote the idea that plants affect every moment of our lives; to breathe, to eat, to heal, and enjoy.
GTACG is grateful that we are able to provide a handicapped accessible space!
